Abstract
El presente trabajo pretende profundizar en la práctica y la profesión de la Interpretación en los servicios públicos (de ahora en adelante, ISP). Se trata de un estudio de caso comparativo de los servicios de ISP en el ámbito sanitario de las ciudades de Barcelona y Montreal (caracterizadas por sus elevados niveles de inmigración y su condición de bilingües). \nEn él se realiza una observación indirecta detallada mediante entrevistas y cuestionarios aplicados a una muestra conformada por profesionales de la salud y los servicios sociales, profesionales de la ISP, gestores de los servicios de ISP y usuarios de dichos servicios. \nEsta investigación describe las soluciones aportadas en ambos contextos al problema que supone la existencia de barreras comunicativas en el acceso a los servicios públicos. Posteriormente, las compara en busca de similitudes y diferencias, destacando en las conclusiones aspectos susceptibles de ser modificados, en pro de una reorientación del perfil profesional que mejor se adecue a las necesidades del ámbito sanitario.
