Dans le présent texte, nous nous intéressons à la mise en œuvre d’un programme d’éthique et de culture religieuse comme indice de la place de la religion dans la sphère publique. N’ayant pas la prétention de traiter cette question avec exhaustivité, après une mise en contexte historique qui permet de saisir l’héritage avec lequel ce programme doit composer, nous nous contenterons, en examinant le discours de divers intervenants privilégiés dans le dossier, de soumettre un certain nombre de considérations autour de quelques enjeux qui demeurent problématiques sur le plan des visées éducatives en matière de formation à l’éthique et de culture religieuse au regard de l’exercice de la citoyenneté dans une société pluraliste et démocratique.
