À Mexico, la configuration de l’espace urbain ne répond pas aux besoins des piétons. Lors de son parcours en ville, le piéton doit surmonter différentes barrières physiques. Au moment de traverser la chaussée, il doit, en plus, se protéger des véhicules. Dans ce sens, la traversée incarne un obstacle majeur pour le piéton et représente le lieu par excellence où s’expriment et matérialisent les relations entre piétons et conducteurs. À travers une approche socio-anthropologique basée sur une étude empirique, il s’agit d’appréhender les formes d’occupation d’un espace public souvent disputé, en rendant compte d’une dimension de la vie urbaine peu analysée à Mexico.
