Le Burkina Faso est un pays multiethnique où cohabitent plus de soixante groupes culturels. Des échanges multiformes ont toujours caractérisé leur cohabitation. Un fait important né de ces échanges est le jeu verbal et gestuel des relations de plaisanteries, véritables joutes oratoires faites d'insultes, de menaces et de railleries grossières. Les relations de plaisanteries ou encore « parentés à plaisanteries » visent le soutien, la solidarité et la camaraderie entre les différents acteurs sociaux, spectateurs comme « protagonistes » du moment. L’auteur cherche à comprendre comment survivent aujourd'hui ces relations de plaisanteries au Burkina Faso et à connaître quelles nouvelles valeurs sociales elles véhiculent.
