Abstract
Most recent works on the international diffusion of institutions have focused on the way in which practices spread globally and how to avoid confrontation with local institutions, by adapting these practices. In so doing, none of these works have considered the strategies local actors use to uphold the foundations of the traditional institutional order in the face of globalization pressures. This article explores this dimension, through an analysis of the strategies employed by actors in an industrial district to adapt to or resist the practices that tend to be spreading throughout the world. This study outlines an analytic framework of the strategies implemented by the actors to secure institutional resistance, a theme notoriously under-developed in institutional analysis.
