Abstract
L’article présente la bibliothèque familiale de Jean Simard (1916-2005), auteur, traducteur, illustrateur et professeur de dessin aux beaux-arts de Montréal, et de son père Charles-Joseph Simard (1817-1931), sous-secrétaire au Secrétariat de la Province de Québec, curateur du Musée provincial et premier directeur de l’École des beaux-arts de Québec. Il met en relief la possibilité d’envisager cette bibliothèque sous trois aspects : espace, mobilier et collection. Cette première étude soulève la perspective de l’existence de cinq espaces, aux fonctions bien définies. En s’appuyant sur l’examen de l’objet-livre, elle met en lumière des pratiques communes au père et au fils : signature, annotations, insertion de documents et, dans une moindre mesure, reliure. Enfin, elle soulève la question de la pratique de la reliure comme moyen de distinction à la fin du XIX e siècle et comme indice d’une conception de la culture livresque.
