Abstract
L’enjeu fondamental de la médecine contemporaine est la place qu’elle reconnaît à la souffrance vécue. On peut relever à cet égard trois apories qui marquent la discipline. La première est que l’intégration du concept de la mort dans l’approche opératoire de la maladie rend le soignant sourd à l’expression de la peur de la mort qui habite le soigné. La deuxième est que l’activité médicale engendre elle-même des maladies alors qu’elle se prétend vouée à la prévention et à la guérison des maladies. La troisième est que la médecine transforme la vie de l’humain tout en faisant l’économie d’une réflexion approfondie sur lui. Bref, la médecine se protège de la souffrance du sujet humain qui, pourtant, est la seule justification de son existence.
