Building Closer Ties between Education and the Economy: The Example of Work-Study Training

Abstract
Over the past few years, we have experienced wide-ranging changes in the educational system, clearly aimed at bringing vocational training institutions more in line with the economy. Work studies on vocational training planning processes (how education is transmitted) and how training centers intervene have been conducted, we are told, in order to ensure that training programs are more closely matched to the skills needed in the workplace. In these circumstances, it is important to understand how matching is achieved. This paper examines one of the principal themes of the recent educational agenda by analyzing the establishment of alternance training as part of the overall training field in two different societies: Quebec and Francophone Belgium.
