Abstract
Ce texte voudrait analyser la généalogie d'une politique de santé mise en œuvre en 1926-1931 pour lutter contre la maladie du sommeil au Cameroun. Le but est d'établir que la déclaration d'une « urgence sanitaire », d'une « crise sanitaire » ou d'une « épidémie », n'est pas simplement la résultante du constat/éventualité d'une situation épidémiologique critique, mais également un acte politique. L'analyse, qui se veut historique, est fondée sur des données bibliographiques et des éléments d'archives consultés au Cameroun (Archives Nationales de Yaoundé), à Marseille (Archives de l'Institut de Médecine Tropicale du Service de Santé des Armées. IMTSSA) et à I’Institut Pasteur de Paris.
