Abstract
Hans Schneider was born on January 24, 1927 in Vienna, Austria.At the age of 12 in 1939, he fled from the Nazi regime to Scotland where he attended high school and then the University of Edinburgh.He received an M.A. (1948) and a Ph.D. (1952) with a thesis "Matrices with nonnegative elements" written under the direction of A.C.
