Abstract
Cet article présente les résultats d’une étude sur l’appropriation sociale d’Internet par des bénévoles québécois et tunisiens luttant contre le sida. En mobilisant une démarche de recherche qualitative s’inspirant de la théorisation enracinée, nous avons observé une double appropriation, celle d’une technologie et celle d’un processus groupal. Les usagers ont instrumentalisé le virtuel pour communiquer à la fois avec l’autre singulier et avec l’autre géographiquement proche. L’asymétrie des pratiques interactives observées entre les deux groupes de bénévoles est considérée non pas comme un échec d’appropriation, mais plutôt comme un indicateur d’appropriation d’une technologie et d’un processus d’interaction groupale, fortement ancrés dans des usages sociotechniques préexistants et dans des contextes socioculturels et organisationnels distincts.
