Abstract
Cet article propose une présentation critique des théories de la lecture développées par Marielle Macé et par Yves Citton, qui ont en commun de définir les pratiques de lecture et d’interprétation comme des activités émancipatrices d’un point de vue éthique et politique. Ces théories partagent une inspiration pragmatiste, qui les incite à refuser les idéologies ségrégationnistes de l’art, qui séparent a priori l’expérience esthétique de l’ordinaire de nos existences. Elles conçoivent en outre la lecture comme un geste critique qui contribue à transformer nos croyances et nos conduites. Malgré cet esprit pragmatiste, l’éthique de la lecture de Marielle Macé et la politique de la lecture d’Yves Citton demeurent attachées à une conception romantique de la littérature, qui tend à méconnaître la diversité sociale et historique de ses représentations et de ses usages.
