Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

A previously healthy 10-month-old child from northern Ontario presented with a three-month history of a mass in the left cheek. The mass was hard and would occasionally turn red for a few days. It was only painful to the child when it was red. The mass slowly increased in size over the past three months and had spread from the centre of the cheek to beside the eye. The child was otherwise healthy, and the physical examination was normal apart from the left cheek. Examination of the left cheek revealed a firm, nonpainful, fixed rubbery mass in the parotid region that was approximately 5 cm in diameter and had an irregular border. Bloodwork revealed a normal complete blood count, liver enzymes, uric acid, electrolytes and renal function. The lactate dehydrogenase level was slightly elevated at 1060 U/L. The initial thought was that this was likely to be a malignancy originating in the muscle or bone of the left cheek.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
