Abstract
La Révolution tranquille renouvelle le personnage de l’« expert », du détenteur d’un savoir non partagé, à qui est attribué un pouvoir croissant. Or, les politiques du territoire contribuent largement, au début des années 1970, au débat public sur le rôle social de l’expertise, dont les divers visages sont alors en construction. L’étude d’un épisode méconnu mais important de ce débat, la Commission parlementaire spéciale sur les professions tenue en 1972, témoigne des définitions de l’expert que proposent alors les associations professionnelles intéressées à l’aménagement du territoire. Ce coup de sonde offre des balises provisoires mais utiles tant à l’historiographie du territoire qu’à une future histoire de l’expertise au Québec, dont les débats sur l’aménagement de l’espace constituent un jalon important.
