The Canadian Computational Collaboratory, C3, is proposed to be a distributed research network for cooperative application of high performance computing. While the resources themselves are being made available, the means and mecha- nisms for their delivery to the remote user community are very limited. Further, the issues related to their application have yet to be fully addressed. This paper offers a vision of the future of HPC networking: Experimental implementations of emergent network technologies (e.g. Java/RMI/CORBA) are exmained to identify barriers to fruitful cooperation in a fully integrated HPC network.
