Abstract
La polémique qu’a soulevée le projet de loi sur l’identité québécoise, que la chef du Parti québécois a déposé à l’Assemblée nationale du Québec à l’automne 2007, excède largement le jeu politique au sens où l’entend le sens commun d’une lutte partisane. Selon l’auteur, l’essentiel de ce débat renvoie peut-être à ce que l’on pourrait appeler un état de société. Si l’essentiel de la critique du projet de loi a porté sur son caractère apparemment anticonstitutionnel, il se demande si c’est bien à cette aune que seront désormais jugés tous les gestes d’affirmation nationale que pourrait vouloir poser le Québec. Il répond à cette question par l’affirmative et tire de ce constat quelques enseignements pour le mouvement souverainiste.
