Abstract
Collecter les « histoires singulières » pour établir l’« histoire partagée » de l’immigration en France est un des principes fondateurs de la Cité nationale de l’histoire de l’immigration, à Paris, musée ouvert en 2007 afin de créer un « centre d’histoire et de mémoire vivante ». Dans cette optique, une triple collection a été constituée : une collection historique, une collection ethnographique et une collection d’art contemporain. Les collections ethnographiques sont des récits de vie individuels accompagnés du don d’un ou de plusieurs objets.Le musée national de l’histoire de l’immigration devient ainsi le dépositaire de « récits de soi » de migrants, de Français ou d’étrangers, d’enfants ou de petits-enfants d’immigrés. Cet article revient sur la manière dont se constitue ce fonds, en montrant en quoi ses collections nous conduisent à interroger la dimension universelle du phénomène migratoire.
