Le réseau des bibliothèques de la ville de Montréal s’est enrichi, le 5 janvier 2009, d’une toute nouvelle bibliothèque : la bibliothèque Père-Ambroise. Celle-ci provient de l’ancienne Centrale-jeunes relocalisée et son nouveau mandat, bibliothèque familiale, deuxième du genre dans le réseau, permet de bonifier l’offre de service à l’ensemble de la clientèle locale. La bibliothèque est située au coeur du quartier Centre-sud de l’arrondissement Ville-Marie de Montréal, un des quartiers les plus touchés par la défavorisation sociale, le décrochage scolaire et le chômage, et dont la population d’enfants âgés de 0 à 6 ans est l’une des plus élevées de l’île. Consciente du rôle social qu’elle doit jouer dans son milieu, la bibliothèque Père-Ambroise concentre ses énergies dans le développement de nombreux programmes et activités favorisant l’intégration des clientèles à risques.
