Les accidents de la route comptent parmi les plus importants problèmes de santé publique des trente dernières années. De nombreuses interventions sont mises en œuvre ou ont été améliorées pour tenter de les prévenir, notamment des campagnes de prévention. Malgré les efforts déployés pour élaborer de telles campagnes, leur efficacité n’est que rarement évaluée. Notre étude s’intéresse spécifiquement aux messages de sécurité routière basés sur la menace et vise à opérationnaliser d’une manière novatrice l’évaluation de leur efficacité. Nous avons évalué 14 messages télévisuels qui varient quant à trois niveaux de réalisme (symbolique/réalisme/hyperréalisme). Nous avons utilisé une approche évaluative tridimensionnelle combinant la réponse électrodermale de conduction, la technique de l’évaluation continue et les réponses cognitives spontanées. Les résultats démontrent que les messages où la menace est dépeinte de façon hyperréaliste sont les plus efficaces pour exacerber l’importance des processus émotionnels et cognitifs liés au traitement de l’information publicitaire.
