Abstract
Audio recording and transcript of Ike Aitken's 1979 interview with Myrtle Bergren for the Coal Tyee History Project. Aitken shares stories from his family's long history with coal mining, both in the Nanaimo area and in Nova Scotia. He describes some of his own jobs in the mines, where he started in about 1925. He explains at length how coal was weighed, and the different ways that miners were paid. Aitken's daughter, Lois Perkins, also participates in the interview.
