ABSTRAK Telah dilakukan penelitian untuk melihat pola konsentrasi gas metana (CH4) yang merupakan salah satu gas rumah kaca dan kaitannya dengan pola curah hujan di wilayah Kototabang dari tahun 2004 2009. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat bagaimana kecenderungan pola konsentrasi CH4 di wilayah Kototabang dan kaitannya dengan curah hujan di wilayah ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya pola musiman tahunan konsentrasi metana yang ditunjukkan dengan adanya peningkatan dan penurunan konsentrasi metana. Pola musiman tahunan ini mengikuti pola Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). Konsentrasi CH4 tahunan meningkat dari 1.810,01 ppb pada tahun 2004 menjadi 1.818, 69 ppb pada tahun 2009. Peningkatan konsentrasi CH4 dipengaruhi oleh peningkatan aktivitas pertanian dan kebakaran hutan yang terjadi di wilayah ini. Pola konsentrasi metana di Kototabang hampir sama dengan pola konsentrasi metana global. Terdapat perbedaan pola pada tahun 2005 dimana konsentrasi metana di Kototabang meningkat secara signifikan karena adanya kebakaran hutan di Sumatera sehingga produksi metana ke atmosfer meningkat. Hasil yang diperoleh juga menunjukkan adanya pengaruh curah hujan terhadap konsentrasi metana di atmosfer. Curah hujan yang tinggi menyebabkan penurunan konsentrasi metana di atmosfer karena reaksi yang terjadi antara metana dan peningkatan keberadaan radikal hidroksil (OH) akibat curah hujan di troposfer yang akan mengurangi konsentrasi metana. Kata kunci: Atmosfer, curah hujan, metana, Kototabang, ITCZABSTRACTThe research has been conducted to look at the pattern of methane (CH4) concentration which is one of the greenhouse gases with precipitationl patterns in the region Kototabang from 2004 to 2009. The research aims to see how the trendline of CH4 concentration in Kototabang and its relation to precipitation in this region. The results showed the of annual seasonal pattern of methane concentration, indicated by the fluctuations methane concentration . The annual seasonal patterns follows the pattern of Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). The annual CH4 concentration increases from 1.810,01 ppb in 2004 to 1.818,69 ppb in 2009. The condition was influenced by the increase in agricultural activity and forest fire. From the results it wa also obtained that concentration patterns of CH4 at Kototabang is similar to the pattern of global CH4 concentration. There are differences in the pattern of concentration in 2005 where the concentration of CH4 significantly increased at Kototabang due to forrest fire in Sumatera region resulting in the increase of CH4 production to the atmosphere . The results also indicate the influence of precipitation against the concentration of CH4 in the atmosphere. High precipitation caused a decrease in the concentration CH4 in the atmosfer due to reaction that occur between CH4 and increase of hydroxyl radical (OH) due to pecipitaion in the troposfer that will reduce CH4 concentration.
