Abstract
The CAMTAC plant in Guelph, Ontario manufactures a number of cylinder heads \nfor Caterpillar machines. The C27 is the largest \ncylinder head manufactured at the plant, weighing approximately 270kg. At the C27 rework \nstation technicians currently use a metal bar to \nmanually \nflip the cylinder head to access the \nopposite side, causing excessive strain on the \nshoulder and back. A design solution is proposed \nfor the mechanical manipulation of CAMTAC \nC27 cylinder heads. The design utilizes specially \ndesigned mounting brackets combined with a \nmotorized lift table and a high-torque electric \nmotor to rotate the cylinder head 180 degrees about its \nlong axis and safely return it to resting position. \nThe design is expected to cost approximately \n$5500.
