Abstract
Les milieux naturels, principalement la famille immédiate et élargie, sont aujourd'hui particulièrement interpellés par le processus de responsabilisation communautaire à l'endroit des personnes ayant des atteintes à leur autonomie. En effet, depuis plus d'une vingtaine d'années, l'État inscrit la participation des milieux naturels au coeur même de certaines politiques sociales en matière de santé. Cette tendance peut être observée dans les politiques de maintien à domicile des personnes âgées et dans la desinstitutionnalisation des déficients intellectuels et des personnes psychiatrisées ainsi que dans la prestation de services de santé à des citoyens-nes sujets-tes à une hospitalisation, depuis « l'hôpital à domicile » de la fin des années quatre-vingt jusqu'au virage ambulatoire. Les milieux naturels, constitués principalement des familles, deviennent ainsi des lieux importants de prestation des soins de santé.
