Abstract
Ce travail prend pour objet les migrations pour etudes dans les familles d’elites au Mali, en s’interessant a l’Amerique du Nord, une destination relativement meconnue des migrations maliennes. L’analyse montre que la mobilite pour etudes aux Etats-‐Unis et au Canada releve d’un fort attrait parmi les elites et s’inscrit plus generalement dans des modes de vie tournes vers l’exterieur. L’acquisition de diplomes nord-‐americains ne suffit cependant pas a garantir au Mali la reproduction des familles membres de l’elite. Si effectuer des etudes a l’etranger permet eventuellement de se projeter dans un avenir ailleurs que dans l’espace national, l’etude montre que l’acces a l’Etat, comme itineraire d’accumulation le plus efficace, releve de criteres plus ambigus. Cette recherche repose sur une pluralite de materiaux empiriques et des terrains multi situes : enquete par questionnaires a Bamako et terrains investis sur un mode plus qualitatif au Mali, aux Etats-‐Unis et au Canada.
