La migration du Sud au Nord est une réalité actuelle et n’est pas sans répercussions dans le monde de la formation professionnelle, qui se confronte à différentes situations interculturelles. Cet article porte sur les épreuves rencontrées par des étudiants d’Afrique subsaharienne en situation de migration, de formation en soins infirmiers dans les Hautes écoles de Suisse romande et, plus spécifiquement, à ce qu’ils nomment un deuxième apprentissage qu’ils sont amenés à faire eux-mêmes, sans l’aide des enseignants, puisque ces derniers n’en sont pas forcément conscients. Sur le plan de la méthodologie, nous avons effectué une recherche qualitative au moyen d’entretiens biographiques et d’entretiens de stage avec des étudiants en provenance de l’Afrique subsaharienne. En conclusion, nous montrons que ces épreuves ont des incidences sur le métier d’étudiant africain, métier qui n’est pas tout à fait le même que celui que les étudiants autochtones sont amenés à réaliser. Signalons que le terme autochtone a été utilisé par les participants. Ils nommaient ainsi les étudiants nés en Suisse (non immigrants). Nous relions cet apprentissage au curriculum caché de formation.
