Abstract
The author reveals the origin and formation of a national novel genre, tells that the novel formation is related to the age of Enlightenment realism in the Tatar literature, and analyzing writers-enlighteners’ novels mentions that in the last quarter of the XIX th century, under the influence of the profound social changes in the Tatar life, a national novel undergoes the renovation both in terms of content and in terms of form.
