Abstract
L’historien culturel Philip Deloria utilise les concepts d’attente et d’anomalie pour mettre en lumiere l’influence des Amerindiens inattendus sur la formation de la culture populaire americaine au debut du vingtieme siecle. J’applique le cadre theorique de Deloria a une etude du saxophoniste Creek et Kaw Jim Pepper, a l’epoque de la sortie de Witchi Tai To en 1969. J’interprete la musique de Pepper comme l’expression sonore d’une vision unique de la modernite musicale autochtone et j’examine les attentes liees a sa fusion de styles musicaux, avant de conclure par une reflexion sur la question de savoir a qui appartient Witchi Tai To.
