Abstract
El proceso de secularización social e intelectual del siglo XIX y la actitud performativa de los escritores modernistas han sido propuestos repetidamente como dos de los principales parámetros creativos de la literatura hispánica del fin de siècle. Sin embargo, a pesar de su relevancia, no se han combinado en una sola práctica hermenéutica. En este artículo, y a partir de intertextualidades desconocidas o poco exploradas entre Prosas profanas y varios trabajos de Remy de Gourmont y Albert Samain, trato de mostrar cómo esa lectura unificada de ambos parámetros resulta tan útil como necesaria para entender Prosas profanas de una forma más compacta y más acorde a su propio título.
