Abstract
Uvularia is a genus of five species native to eastern North America from Nova Scotia and southern Quebec southward and westward to Florida, Texas, and Manitoba (Utech and Kawano 2003). The plants are rhizomatous perennial herbs with leafy, forked aerial stems, sessile or perfoliate leaves, and one to occasionally more, greenish or yellow campanulate flowers. The specimen of U. sessilifolia L. cited below is the first report of this species in Kansas and only the second species of the genus reported there, the other being U. grandiflora Smith (Wilbur 1963; Utech and Kawano 2003). The new record is a result of a preliminary inventory of the flora of selected areas of the southeastern part of the state, particularly Wilson County, and study of the western distribution of Uvularia in the more southern parts of its range (Singhurst et al. 2003).
