Abstract
The article discusses a 16th-century Dutch medieval prayer-nut, or pasternoster, a small object used for private devotion, acquired for the Thomson Collection at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, Ontario. The author describes the wood carvings of the nut including a scene of the Virgin and Child and a coat of arms of four families from Cologne, Germany. The author suggests that the nut was intended for Francois Du Puy, a member of the religious Carthusian Order, or Order of St. Bruno.
