Lors du premier colloque Espace Mathématique francophone tenu à Grenoble en juillet 2000 (EM2000), les québécois avaient envoyé une forte délégation de tous jeunes enseignants qui avaient suivi une formation spécifique pré-colloque. Ne voulant pas donner de la France l'image désuète d'une veille Europe sur le déclin, la Commission Française pour l'Enseignement des Mathématiques (CFEM), par l'intermédiaire de son président, Jean-Luc Dorier, a voulu montrer le dynamisme des jeunes enseignants français. Onze stagiaires provenant de différents IUFM en France (ce sont des ex-étudiants de niveau bac+4 ayant réussi l'année précédente le concours du CAPES ou de l'Agrégation de mathématiques) ont ainsi participé, avec le soutien de l'Office Franco Québécois pour la Jeunesse et des collègues de l'Université du Québec à Montréal et de l'Université de Sherbrooke, à un programme de formation d'une semaine avant EMF2006. Lors du colloque EMF2006, un projet spécial leur a permis, avec de jeunes collègues du Québec, d'exposer devant une audience fournie, les résultats de leur mémoire professionnel ou, dans le cas des québécois, de leurs projets de fin d'études.
