Abstract Records of exotic and transplanted fish species in Iran are reviewed. At least 24 species have been reported including the first records here of the Stone Moroko, Pseudorasbora parva and the Threespine Stickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus. Exotics have been imported to Iran for food, sport, research, ornamentation, weed control, and health reasons or are accidental introductions incidental to these purposes. Recommendations are given to protect the native fishes from exotics which may introduce parasites and diseases, compete for food and habitat, or consume native fishes.
