Abstract
Cette étude sociohistorique, à partir des années 1950, montre la diversité des points de vue du corps médical face à la question du dopage et, dès les années 1960, la demande de médecins d’un soutien pharmacologique pour les sportifs professionnels. Si tous sont opposés au dopage, ils ne le définissent pas de la même façon. Mais tous le refusent aux sportifs amateurs. À partir de la notion de rééquilibrage hormonal, ont peut repérer divers types de médecins qui lui sont favorables ou non. Cette différenciation se fait en fonction de la proximité avec la douleur quotidienne du patient et de son versant santé publique ou sport. La réalité du dopage, à la suite de l’affaire Festina, a porté sur le devant de la scène un nouveau type de médecins, issus de la lutte contre la toxicomanie, amenant avec eux une demande de politique de réduction des risques.
