Abstract
Stratospheric ozone is an important constituent of the Earth's atmosphere since it protects the biosphere from the most harmful ultraviolet radiations emitted by the sun. Some human activiites such as the use of man-mande chlorofluorocarbons have resulted in major destruction of ozone, in particular in the polar regions of the stratosphere. The Montreal Protocol has been successful in limiting the emissions of ozone depleting substances such as the complete ozone recovery is expected to take place in 2050 over northern mid-latitudes.
