Abstract
Adolescents are young people between the ages of 10 -24 years according to the Department of Health, Philippines and 10 - 19 years according to the World Health Organization. Adolescents are often thought of as a healthy group. Men in the United States suffer regularly from condition such as urinary tract infection. While based on the Field Health Service Information System (FHSIS) Annual Report for the first quarter of 2013, the cases of UTI among males ages one year to sixty five and above in Bauang, La Union were 25, and cases of UTI among adolescents ages 10-24 were 10. This study aimed to determine the predictors on the prevalence of urinary tract infection among adolescents in selected high schools of Bauang, La Union, the result of which will be the basis of a health guide. The health guide was divided into different parts as follows: the title, the objectives of the health guide, definition of the disease, the main discussion and the evaluation. The descriptive-correlation developmental method of research was utilized to assess the health care practices of adolescent males. I made use of a questionnaire-checklist in gathering primary data and other information needed in response to the objectives of the problem. Gathered data were treated using frequency counts, percentages, weighted means, averages, Pearson product moment correlation, and stepwise regression. It was conducted in the calendar year 2012-2013. The study was limited to five hundred eighty-six (586) high school students in four (4) high schools in Bauang, La Union. They were selected through stratified sampling method. Results showed that adolescent males in the Municipality of Bauang, La Union are composed largely of a low- income families, the largest group of number of respondents were in the range 2-3 siblings, and predominantly Roman Catholics. Analysis further revealed that the respondents still conform to proper personal hygiene, eating habits, elimination, and rest and sleep pattern, though the study showed that the respondents are poor in hygiene before and every after sexual contact or masturbation. Though the results showed that they still conform to proper health practices, religious and moral beliefs still take part in influencing their way of life which significantly affected their health practices.Furthermore, low family income greatly influencedtheir way of life which significantly affected the implementation of urinary health practices. As such, among the three profile variables, average monthly income was the predictor of health practices as evidenced by 33.4% R2.
