Abstract
This book discusses the role of water in the urbanization of Montreal, showing the reciprocal effect of the natural environment and the evolving society. Organized chronologically, the author discusses prominent municipal initiatives and highlights their interconnectedness: the success of one project was directly affected by the effective management of other initiatives. Perceptions of water also evolved. Michele Dagenais's book is a welcome addition to city-centred literature, as it fills a gap by capturing Montreal’s complex and multi-faceted relationship with water.
