Notre étude a eu pour but d’évaluer l’influence de l’environnement sur la morphologie, le comportement et l’expression de gènes dans le cerveau chez deux populations d’eau douce d’épinoches à trois épines, Gasterosteus aculeatus, de la région du Bas St.-Laurent provenant des lacs Témiscouata et Rond. Des différences significatives ont été trouvées au niveau de la morphologie; les structures défensives étant plus développées chez les épinoches du lac Témiscouata. Des juvéniles de chacun des lacs ont également été élevés en milieu commun au laboratoire et des différences significatives ont été trouvées dans leurs comportements. Les niveaux d’activité et d’agressivité étant plus élevés dans la population du lac Rond que dans le lac Témiscouata. Finalement, aucune différence significative n’a été trouvée dans l’expression des gènes ciblés entre les deux populations. Nous avons toutefois observé un patron moléculaire apparent dans l’expression des gènes: l’expression de certains gènes étant corrélé avec l’expression de leurs récepteurs alors que d’autres non. Les différences morphologiques et comportementales trouvées pourraient être expliquées par le niveau de prédation qui semble a priori plus élevé dans le lac Témiscouata que dans le lac Rond.
