Abstract
Mientras llega el dia (1990), roman historique de Juan Valdano, recree un episode du premier mouvement independantiste de 1810 en centrant son action sur les neuf jours qui ont precede la tentative de liberation des conjures emprisonnes. Contrairement a la realite historique, les metis sont les acteurs principaux de ce premier elan emancipateur qui jette les bases d’un nouvel ordre social pour l’Equateur. La reelaboration de ces journees se double du conflit interieur du protagoniste, Pedro Matias Ampudia, qui, au cours de l’intrigue, tente de surmonter les contradictions entre son double heritage autochtone et occidental pour devenir un homme nouveau, libre, archetype de l’equatorianite. L’apprehension humaniste occidentale de la liberte et de la justice et la perception indigene du monde et de l’histoire se reconcilient dans cette approche de la question. Nous nous interessons a la structure du roman, image de la geste emancipatrice ; au peuple, artisan des evenements, en particulier, a Candelaria et a l’Indien Julian ; a Pedro Matias, archetype du nouveau metis, pierre angulaire du nouvel ordre social.
