Dans les années 1980, le théâtre québécois s’est émancipé d’un certain nombre de paradigmes sociopolitiques au profit d’interrogations plus universelles, reflétant à travers ses personnages la quête identitaire d’un référent intime. Le théâtre de Robert Lepage atteste de cette nouvelle orientation, notamment dans sa représentation stratégique des rapports interlinguistiques. Au cœur de la poétique lepagienne du plurilinguisme, le français du Québec apparaît comme une langue de communication qui, tout en permettant d’assumer les spécificités culturelles, refuse les rapports de pouvoir et fonde la rencontre harmonieuse avec l’autre. Dès lors, plutôt que de l’associer au désenchantement post-référendaire, pourquoi ne pas considérer ce théâtre comme une forme de «langagement»?
