Abstract
국내 불어불문학계의 오랜 관심사로 그동안 퀘벡을 중심으로 진행되어 온 프랑코포니 연구가 소수민족의 이주문학과 문화횡단주의(transculturalisme) 를 주제로 진행되는 상황에서, Ghislaine Sathoud의 Les femmes d'Afrique centrale au Quebec 등 퀘벡사회 내 흑인문학의 존재는 그 연구의 지평이 프랑스어권 아프리카로까지 확장될 수 있을 것이라는 확신을 갖게 한다. 이러한 작업의 일환으로 기획된 본고는 우선 퀘벡 흑인사회의 연혁을 역사문헌과 인구통계자료를 통해 검토하고, 유럽에서와는 달리 퀘벡에 거주하는 흑인들의 겉모습이 당당한 이유가 높은 수준의 학력 또는 경제력을 요구하는 훨씬 더 까다로운 이민자격 심사기준에 있음을 설명한다. 이어서 아프리카 출신 흑인들이 퀘벡사회에 적응하여 사회적 통합을 이루고 동화되어 가는 과정에서 겪게 되는 어려움을 살펴본 후, 퀘벡에서 활동 중인 예술가, 문인, 학자 등 흑인 지식계층의 현황을 분석한다. 이를 통해 향후 퀘벡사회의 흑인공동체 비중이 점차 커져갈것이며, 동시에 아프리카산(産) 흑인문화도 아메리카 대륙의 프랑스어권 교두보인 퀘벡에서 서인도 제도로부터 유입된 크레올 문화 못지않게 심화되어 나갈 것이라는 결론을 얻게 된다. 이는 21세기 세계화 시대에 영어가 국제어로서 위상을 굳혀 가면 갈수록 아프리카 또는 유럽의 프랑스어권 흑인디아스포라 사회에서 해외이민을 희망하는 중산층이 영어와 불어의 동시 습득이 가능한 퀘벡을 선호하게 될 것이라는 전망이 가능하기 때문이다.
