Abstract
Cet article se propose d'examiner comment Michael Ondaatje dans In The Skin of a Lion utilise Toronto comme toile de fond pour rendre hommage aux immigrants qui ont contribué à la construction de la ville, en mêlant l'Histoire et les histoires individuelles pour réhabiliter ces ouvriers inconnus. L'aventure collective de ces ouvriers anonymes et la vie du protagoniste Patrick Lewis créent une « métafiction historiographique » où la construction des ponts de la ville, sont les métaphores des liens entre les individus et les arts. Ondaatje parvient enfin à établir un parallèle entre l'évolution de la ville et l'émancipation de ses personnages.
