Abstract
Es war so schon in der Unternehmensgeschichte, als Theoriedebatten noch von Unternehmenshistorikern gefuhrt wurden, die sich intensiv und ausschweifend mit ganz unterschiedlichen Theorieansatzen aus den Nachbardisziplinen der Wirtschaftsgeschichte auseinandergesetzt hatten, vom schopferischen Unternehmer Josef Schumpeters, uber das Unternehmertum in den Schriften Fritz Redlichs, uber das viel zitierte „Structure follows Strategy“ eines Alfred D. Chandler bis hin zur jungsten totalitaren Theoriemode in der Unternehmensgeschichte, der Neuen Institutionenokonomie im Anschlus an Douglas North und Oliver Williamson. Es war eine abseitig der umkampften Markte gefuhrte Diskussion innerhalb einer unpopularen Teildisziplin der Wirtschaftsgeschichte, die – von den Moden der Alltagsgeschichte, der oral history und spater des linguistic turn und der Kulturgeschichte unbelastigt – langsam und einsam ein komplexes Theoriegebilde zur historischen Analyse von Unternehmen entwickeln konnte.
