Abstract
L'afrikaans a pour origine des dialectes néerlandais littoraux, notament le dialecte hollandais (méridional) et le dialecte zélandais, ainsi qu’une forme créolisée de ces dialectes, parlée par la population métis. C'est cette origine européenne de l'afrikaans qui est le sujet de mon article. Suite à l'achèvement de l'atlas phonologique des dialectes néerlandais (le Fonologische Atlas van de Nederlandse Dialecten = FAND), illustrant les phénomènes phonoloqiques de la langue avec des centaines de planches, des données phonologiques de l'afrikaans ont pu être comparées avec celles résultantes de ce projet de grande envergure qu'est le FAND. Ces données rendent très problable que l'afrikaans à été développé à partir de ces dialectes néerlandais littoraux. Il est remarquable que certaines charactéristiques contemporaines de l'afrikaans ont plus d'affinités avec le flamand qu'avec le hollandais.
