Abstract
A infância idílica que povoa nossas mentes é uma criação recente. Para a maioria dos historiadores, data do século XIX, junto com o ideal da família burguesa. Antes, as crianças eram imposições da natureza ao cotidiano dos adultos e não eram preservadas de nenhuma de suas agruras. Naquela época, a perspectiva de uma infância sem fim equivaleria a viver permanentemente em perigo. Entretanto, é justamente a infância que nunca termina que J. M. Barrie propõe em ‘Peter Pan e Wendy’, sua obra mais famosa. Evidentemente, essa proposta surgiu quando as crianças já usufruíam outro status e recebiam cuidados e mimos antes inimagináveis. Em ‘Entrevista com o vampiro’, Anne Rice também apresenta uma criança que jamais se tornará adulta. E nas duas obras, o preço da eterna infância é o esquecimento. Este artigo analisa a eterna infância em ‘Peter Pan e Wendy’ e ‘Entrevista com vampiro’, observando a questão do gênero na vida cheia de aventuras do protagonista do livro de Barrie e na sexualidade perpetuamente reprimida de Cláudia, a menina-vampiro que se torna mulher sem nunca sê-la fisicamente.
