Abstract
Muchas enfermedades pueden ser atribuidas a problemas con la apoptosis. Existen enfermedades en lascuales hay una falta de regulacion de la apoptosis la cual contribuye a la patogenesis de dicha enfermedad.La progresion de la enfermedad puede involucrar la acumulacion de celulas, como en el cancer, o la perdidade ellas por un exceso de apoptosis, como en el SIDA La identificacion de los genes y sus productos responsablesde la apoptosis, ha dado lugar al descubrimiento de farmacos algunos de los cuales ya estan en protocolos deinvestigacion clinica. El balance entre las proteinas pro- y antiapoptoticas puede determinar el destino de lascelulas. A este respecto, mucho se ha aprendido acerca de estas dos familias de proteinas y se continuara lainvestigacion para revelar nuevas estrategias para combatir las enfermedades.
