Abstract
La dialectologia hispanica, en su variedad iberoamericana, ha dado un nuevo paso, gracias a los esfuerzos de Manuel Alvar, en un area de la linguistica que habia permanecido estancada por mucho tiempo. (Gran parte de la bibliografia del espanol de Merida, Yucatan, es anterior a 1950). Manuel Alvar, pecando de humilde, ha subrayado el caracter provisional e incompleto de sus notas, pero el hecho es que, en el caso de la linguistica, esta encuesta —ojala solo una incursion inicial en este campo— recoge un corpus muy completo y fidedigno del espanol yucateco.
