Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

In January 2010 I led a group of alpine plant enthusiasts from Holland, the UK and Canada to several alpine areas in Tasmania as the last stage in their visit to alpine areas of Australia. At Cradle Mountain we were joined by Dick Burns who is the foremost botanic expert on the flora of this region. He pointed out and helped us identify a range of plants seen around Dove Lake on the first day and on the high plateau behind Crater Lake on the second day and these two walks are where we found the plant orphans described here.

Fetched live from OpenAlex and de-inverted. Abstracts are not stored in this database: the inverted indexes are 8.6 GB of the frame’s 9.3 GB of text, and the host has 13 GB free.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
