Abstract
Peu de gens savent que Gabor Szilasi a pris des images photographiques lorsqu’il a fui la Hongrie pour venir au Canada en 1957, ainsi qu’a son retour a Budapest plus de vingt annees plus tard. La photographie a joue un role central dans l’experience de Szilasi, agissant comme moyen d’articuler et de negocier a la fois la disjonction entre sa memoire et le temps present Prises lors de son exil et de son retour, ces images representent des moments cles de sa vie et annoncent l’attention portee au temps et au changement dans son oeuvre. Szilasi s’est servi de la photographie pour denicher le familier sur une terre inconnue, que ce soit le Quebec ou Budapest Elle lui a permis d’accepter le changement, la transition, et de revendiquer le droit d’etre chez lui.
