Abstract
En se basant sur la variabilité des caractéristiques sociales des étudiants dans l’ensemble des universités françaises entre 2007 et 2011, cet article montre que la seule prise en compte de l’origine sociale des inscrits restitue un espace et des regroupements disciplinaires qui correspondent fortement à la classification en groupes de sections du Conseil national des universités. Cette concordance, redoublée par d’autres caractéristiques telles que le genre et le capital scolaire, permet de formuler l’hypothèse selon laquelle les hiérarchies plus ou moins explicites entre domaines de connaissance, présentées sous la forme d’arguments d’ordres épistémologique ou pratique, font également écho à des jugements sociaux de classe.
