Abstract
L'effectif de la population totale tirée du recensement correspond-il à la meilleure estimation possible de la population réelle ? Depuis vingt ans, Statistique Canada publie l'estimation du taux de sous-dénombrement de ses recensements sans toutefois corriger ses estimations de population. Selon le fichier de l'assurance-maladie du Québec, la population totale aurait été en 1986 de 6 753 000 personnes au lieu des 6 540 000 données par le recensement, une différence très proche de celle qu'implique le taux de sous-dénombrement. Le texte explique le fonctionnement de ce fichier et son exploitation à des fins de statistiques démographiques, et fournit certains résultats par âge et sexe ainsi que par région. THIBAULT Normand —
